Samsung reaches agreement with protesting workers in Chennai over wage hike demands

Samsung has agreed to meet the demands of its employees, who have been protesting in Chennai since September 9. The workers had been calling for wage hikes and additional benefits. Senior Samsung officials met with Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa in a bid to resolve the ongoing labour strike.
Minister Rajaa posted on X, stating that the employees were satisfied with the outcome after the company addressed their concerns.
“After nearly 12 hours of discussions, we appreciate Samsung’s leadership for negotiating in good faith and the employees for their constructive engagement. Many workers expressed their gratitude for management’s willingness to listen. The issue of union recognition remains subjudice, and we respect the legal process,” the DMK minister tweeted.

Over 1,100 employees from Samsung’s Sriperumbudur unit have been on strike. The workers also called on the state government to recognise the Samsung India Workers’ Union, which is backed by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU). Minister Rajaa urged employees to return to work following the resolution.
